Lancer's Men's Indoor Track Compete at Wheaton Pre-Post Season Invite

Worcester, MA- The Men's Indoor Track team travelled to Wheaton on Saturday to compete in the Pre-Post Season Invitational. The Men were led by the strong finishes of senior Daniel Clark (Worcester, MA), first years Eliezer Gonzalez (Worcester, MA), James Riley (Shrewsbury, MA) and Taylor Gavaletz (Dudley, MA).

Clark had the strongest showing of the afternoon with a second-place finish in the men's 800m run that saw him cross in a time of 2:03.17 for a third-place finish at the meet. Matthew Talbot raced alongside Clark for an 18th place finish with a time of 2:16.11. Continuing the success in the distance races was first year Alexander Lucier (Gardner, MA) who finished with a time of 4:50.27 for eighth in the 1-mile run. First year Andrew Stokes (Wilmington, MA) finished the race in a time of 5:25.39 for 22nd in the afternoon. Riley put in the distance in the 3000m coming in 12th place with a strong time of 9:30.75 for the Lancers, while fellow first year Alexander Matsuyasu (Newton, MA) crossed in 27th with a time of 10:33.39. First Year Seth Boudreau (Douglas, MA) and Gavaletz teamed up in the 400m each crossing the line in under a minute. Boudreau crossed first in a time of 55.04 with Gavaletz close on his heels at a time for 56.50. The times would be enough to see 14th and 20th place finishes in the highly competitive race.

The Lancers really showed their leg speed at the meet today with first year Eliezer Gonzalez (Worcester, MA) sprinting to a 25th place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 8.36 seconds while first year Alan Gomez (Clinton, MA) and junior Anthony Paolucci (Billerica, MA) did double duty sprinting to 33rd and 34th place finishes in the 200m before teaming up with sophomores Giovanni Casiano (Oxford, MA) and Brian O'Leary (Marlborough, MA) for a 5th place finish in the 4x400m.

The field events had excitement of their own with sophomore Max O'Connor (Dedham, MA) and junior Matt Long (East Bridgewater, MA) going 12th and 13th in the weight throw. O'Connor threw a distance of 10.76m while Long followed it up with a 9.32m toss. Jumping took a strong focus this afternoon with Gonzalez and Casiano again competing for the Lancers. Casiano grabbed 16th place with a 4.96m leap with Gonzalez close on the mark with a leap of 4.65m in the long jump. The Lancer jumpers really found traction in the triple jump where Gavaletz went the distance with a 12.22m jump that found him in 4th place, while Gonzalez found his perfect stride leaping for a 10.90m and a 6th place finish.

The Lancers Track team is back in action next Friday as qualifying athletes compete in the New England DIII Championship in Boston.
