Gibson, 4x100 Relay Propels Men's Outdoor Track At UMass Dartmouth

 

Men's Outdoor Track Slotted At Eighth In Latest USTFCCCA New England Regional Index

 

N. Dartmouth, MA --- Junior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) blew the field away with first in the 110 meter hurdles (43.39) and he anchored the runner-up 4x100 meter relay (43.39) to help pace the Worcester State men's outdoor track and field team to fifth place at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Invitational.

The other members of the 4x100 meter relay included junior Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) in the leadoff spot, senior Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) second and third-year Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) third.

For his outstanding efforts this week, Gibson was honored as the MASCAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week. Gibson's time from last week at Tufts still ranks fourth in the NCAA Division III in the 110 meter hurdles.

The field also had some strong performances with junior David Germain (Malden, MA) and classmate Dan Ross (Foxboro, MA) who placed fourth (6-0/1.83 meters) and fifth (6-0/1.83m), respectively, in the high jump.

Third-year Mario De Jesus (Lawrence, MA) tossed fifth in the javelin (163-3/49.76m) while senior Shawn McCabe (Mansfield, MA) added fifth in the hammer (136-11/41.74m) and junior Robert White (Ludlow, MA) was right behind in the same event with sixth (135-4/41.24m).

Sophomore Shawn Seamans (Newton, MA) notched fifth in the triple jump (39-11.25/12.17m) as junior Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) put up seventh in the shot put (44-0.75/13.43m) and 12th in the javelin (147-6/44.96m).

Freshman Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) placed with ninth in the shot put (42-10.75) and he wrapped up his meet with 12th in the discus (117-5/35.78m).

Senior Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) sprinted to sixth in the 400 (51.33) followed by Gannon in eighth (51.94). Paquin took eighth in the 100 (11.25) and freshman Jared Barros (Taunton, MA) was just off scoring points with 10th (11.32).

Junior Adam Pepin (Paxton, MA) recorded 11th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.12) as freshman Charles Newman (Westfield, MA) and Rafael were 12th (23.19) and 16th (23.35), respectively, in the 200.

Worcester State will hit the track again next week at the Wesleyan Invitational while Gibson looks to put up some solid times down South at the University of Miami Alumni Invitational.
