Five Take Home Honors For Men's Track At ECAC Division III Championships

Men's Track Stands Pat At Sixth In USTFCCCA New England Index, Ranked Top Public School Regionally

 

Troy, NY --- Senior Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) highlighted the men's track and field team with All-ECAC accolades in the high jump (6-7/2.01m) for the fourth time in his career as he helped the Worcester State men's track and field team take 17th place at the ECAC Division III Championships.

The Lancers equaled the finish of Williams with 16 team points while Oneonta State (63) edged Bates (60) for the prestigious regional title.

Senior Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) notched third in the 100 meters (10.71) and junior Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) tallied 6,124 points for fifth in the decathlon with the top finish in the discus (122-10.25/37.45) and pole vault (13-3/4.04m).

Sliwoski ended his outdoor run in the decathlon in 30th place on the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships list while Johnson ended the season 35th in the high jump with his outstanding finish at the ECACs.

Junior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) added seventh in the 110 meter hurdles (14.85) for All-ECAC honors and 10th in the 200 (22.06) while junior Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) sprinted to sixth in the 100 (10.92) and had a leap of 11th in the long jump (22-4.5/6.82m).

Senior Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) recorded 10th in the 400 (49.98) followed by junior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) who timed 14th (50.33).

The 4x100 meter relay of Truong, Paquin, junior Matthew Alley (Milford, MA) third and Gibson at anchor teamed for 43.14 in 11th. The 4x400 squad of Rafael, freshman Jared Barros (Taunton, MA) second, classmate Shane McKinley (Melrose, MA) third and Gannon notched 14th (3:23.78).

Other standouts included senior Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) in the javelin (162-6.25/49.54m - 9th) and junior David Germain (Malden, MA) in the high jump (6-3/1.91m - 12th).

Barros and freshman Franklin Dallas (New London, CT) were 23rd (22.55) and 25th (23.90) in the 200, respectively.

Paquin and Gibson will await the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field official announcement on Monday morning to see whether they made the field for next week's national meet.
