Gibson Tabbed USTFCCCA Division III New England Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year

New Orleans, LA --- Senior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) has been selected as the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) New England Division III Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year for his stellar contributions to the Worcester State men's track and field team during the season.

Gibson is the first MASCAC student-athlete to be recognized since Molly Rouillard of Bridgewater State was chosen in the spring of 2013 and he becomes the second Worcester State honoree to be presented the award. Lancer Hall of Famer Stanley Egbor was named the New England Division III Indoor Track Athlete of the Year during the winter of 2000-01.

Shrugging off injuries he sustained from the indoor campaign, Gibson has put together one of the finest performances over the span of the last month in the 110 meter hurdles.

With one week to go before qualifying for the conference meet, Gibson won the event at the Springfield Invitational on April 18 (15.10) and he never looked back. Since then, he won his second career MASCAC/Alliance title over the weekend of April 25 (14.38), became Worcester State's seventh All-Division New England Outdoor Champion on May 9 (14.23) and last week he won the ECAC Division III title for the second best time nationally (14.09).

Gibson enters his third career 110 meter hurdles race at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, seeded second as a serious threat to take down two-time defending champion, junior Luke Campbell (Brunswick, MD) of Salisbury, should the pair meet in the finals.

Over the course of his career, Gibson has stamped his ticket to the NCAA Championships six times. He was the 2012-13 National Champion in the 60 meter hurdles and in 2013-14, Gibson was the National Runner-up to Campbell in the 60 meter hurdles with the second fastest split in event history.

Gibson is a three-time All-American, capturing accolades as a sophomore in the 110 meter hurdles with fourth place overall and he anchored WSU's first relay team to make it to the National meet since 1974 in his junior year.

In the only week that Gibson did not compete in the 110 meter hurdles during the outdoor season, he broke 11 seconds with a time of 10.99 in the trials of the 100 meters at the Division III New England Outdoor Championships before settling for fifth place in the competition (11.06), aiding the Lancers to ninth overall and their third consecutive top ten finish.

This past indoor campaign, Gibson became a three-time champion in the 60 meter hurdles at the Division III New England Indoor Championships with a remarkable time of 7.98. The only other WSU student-athlete to accomplish the feat was Egbor from 1999-2001 in the 100 meters.
