Lancers Grab Five First Place Finishes at Eric Loeschner Invitational

FITCHBURG, Mass. - Week-by-week, the duo of Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.) and Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) land atop of the throwing competitions, as Weeks won the shot put event, and Vieira won both the men's discus throw (42.04m) and men's hammer throw (50.98m) on Saturday (Apr. 17) at the Eric Loeschner Invitational, hosted by Fitchburg State.

 

Weeks threw for 15.25m in the shot put event, qualifying him for both Division III New England Championships, along with ECAC's. Vieira won the other two throwing events. Weeks came in at second in the discus (41.35m) and hammer (50.38m), while Vieira came in fourth in the shot put (13.70m).

 

Sophomore Alexander Mandragouras (Newbury, Mass.) placed 3rd in the discus. Jacob Roumanos (Whitman, Mass.), Anthony Christo (Peabody, Mass.), and Mike Piantedosi (Stow, Mass.) followed at the 5th, 6th, and 7th spots. Christo and Robert White (Ludlow, Mass.) marked 6th and 7th place finishes, respectively, in the hammer.

 

Duy Truong (Worcester, Mass.) won the 110 Meter Hurdles in 15.30, qualifying for both Division III New England and ECAC Championships. David Germain (Malden, Mass.) came in at 4th in the same event, as he qualified for Division III New England's at 16.34. Germain also placed 5th in the men's high jump, with a top height of 1.87 m.

 

Elijah Mawejje (Woburn, Mass.) came in behind him at eighth place, as he qualified for Division III New England Championships in the men's long jump, as he placed 3rd for a distance of 6.59m. Mawejje and Tyler Nims (Ashburnham, Mass.) came in at 8th and 9th places, respectively in the 400 Meter Hurdles. Eric Sanford (Peabody, Mass.) and Carlos Nieves (Clinton, Mass.) also came in at 8th and 9th places, respectively, in the Men's 3000 Steeplechase.

 

Truong and Markiesh Harmon (Leominster, Mass.) came in at 5th and 6th places, respectively, in the men's long jump. Harmon also competed in the triple jump and came in at 5th place.

 

Worcester's 'A' squad of Truong, Christian Cedullo (Salem, Mass.), Ben Dussault (Assonet, Mass.), and Charles Newman (Westfield, Mass.) grabbed first place in the 4x100 Meter Relay in 42.61, good enough to qualify for ECAC Championships, and currently are in first place in the conference time-wise. Truong's leadoff led was the second fastest at the meet. Worcester then marked a third place finish in the 4x400 Meter Relay, and then took third also in the 4x800 Meter Relay.

 

Mamudu Dennis led the way for the Lancers in the 100 Meter, as he marked a fourth place finish in 11.14 to qualify for Division III New England Championships.

 

Dussault and Newman came in at 6th and 7th places in the 200 Meters in times of 22.72 and 23.05, respectively. With Dussault's 6th place finish, he qualified for Division III New England Championships.

 

Marc George (Framingham, Mass.) placed third in the 800 Meters, while Mitchell Cupp (N. Attleboro, Mass.) followed with a ninth place finish. Devin Luce (Milford, Mass.) marked a 7th place finish in the 1500 Meters, and Christian Vera (Worcester, Mass.) came in at 9th in the 5000 Meters at 16:47.98.
