Men's Outdoor Track & Field Competes in Jerry Gravel Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's outdoor track & field team competed in its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon, taking part in the Jerry Gravel Invitational on the campus of Westfield State University.

Worcester State had a pair of first place finishes on the day, both from distance runners. Junior Drew Fottler (Chelmsford, Mass.) topped the podium in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:13.20, while classmate Patrick Carleton (Tewksbury, Mass.) was the winner of the 5,000-meter run at 16:15.41.

In other distance events, two Lancers finished in the top-six of the 800-meter run. Junior Sam Magee (Salem, Mass.) placed fourth with a time of 2:08.52, while classmate Robert Doig (Ashby, Mass.) was close behind in sixth at 2:10.02. In the 1,500-meter, junior Wayne Carey (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was fifth at 4:34.18.

Hurdler Charles Bray (Shrewsbury, Mass.) recorded a trio of top-four finishes, highlighted by a second place finish in the 110-meter hurdles at 16.63 seconds. He finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:06.16, with teammate Sery Auguste (Uxbridge, Mass.) placing sixth at 1:08.21. Bray was also the first leg of the 4x100-meter relay team which finished in third place at 46.11 seconds, joined by Michael Butten (Marblehead, Mass.), Zack Poitras (Webster, Mass.), and Bright Bremang (Worcester, Mass.).

Off the track, junior Colin Brennan (Newbury, Mass.) had a strong performance in the javelin throw, placing second at 49.00 meters. Hoang Vo (Worcester, Mass.) was the third place finisher in the pole vault at 3.20 meters, while first-year DJ Gagnon (Dracut, Mass.) was fourth in the shot put at 11.82 meters. Junior Kyle Haley (Mansfield, Mass.) placed fifth in the long jump at 6.18 meters and first-year Jack Houlihan (Holden, Mass.) placed fifth in the discus at 34.88 meters to round out Worcester State's top finishes on the day. 

Worcester State will return to Westfield on Saturday, May 1 for the MASCAC Championship meet. First events will commence at 10 a.m.
