Tom Ronan was announced as the head coach of the Worcester State University men’s and women’s cross country programs in the summer of 2021. 

Ronan came to Worcester State with a wealth of coaching experience. He serves as the head track & field and strength coach at St. Paul High School in Worcester, and was previously the head coach of Holy Name High School track & field team prior to its merger with St. Peter-Marian. Before Holy Name, Ronan was the head coach of cross country and outdoor track & field at Tri-County High School and assistant indoor track coach at Franklin High School for 10 years, coaching numerous Mass. state champions in the distance events.

Ronan is also the head triathlon coach at Crimson Aquatics Club in Whitinsville, Mass., and is the owner and head coach of MRA Coaching and Training in Northbridge, Mass. He has coached 11 USA Triathlon national qualifiers and one World Championships qualifier in the triathlon, as well as dozens of Boston Marathon qualifiers and Ironman finishers.

Ronan was a standout distance runner and pole vaulter at North Catholic High School in Philadelphia and a U.S. Navy search and rescue swimmer before attending UMass Boston. 

In addition to his head coaching role with the men’s and women’s cross country teams, Ronan serves as an assistant coach for the Lancer indoor and outdoor track & field teams.
