Worcester, MA --- The Worcester State College softball team's struggles continued Thursday evening as they lost a pair of non-conference contests to the visiting Bison of Nichols College at Rockwood Field.  The Lancers fell in game 1, 9-8, and in game 2 by the score of, 9-5.  The losses leave Worcester State with a 7-18 record while Nichols improves to 17-10.

In game 1, freshman Lyndsey Hassett (Oxford, MA) went 4-for-4 with two runs batted in and leftfielder Christina Hebert (Johnston, RI) had 4 RBI as the visitors took game 1, 9-8.  Worcester State led, 6-4, after four innings before Nichols put up a decisive 5 runs in the fifth inning to give the Bison a, 9-6 advantage through six innings of play.  Worcester State plated a pair in the bottom of the inning but couldn't overcome the deficit.  Sophomore Ashley Wyland (Schenectady, NY) got the win improving to 4-2 for Nichols.  Danielle Caron (Peabody, MA) took the loss.  Katherine Kelly (Burlington, MA), Ashley Nye (Marion, MA), Catherine Costopoulos (Tyngsboro, MA) and Caron each had two hits in the game for Worcester State.

In game 2, the fifth inning was Worcester State's undoing as Nichols scored 7 runs to take a, 9-3, lead and cruise to the, 9-5, victory.  Designated Player Lauren Person (Vernon, CT) was 4-for-5 with 3 RBI to lead Nichols in the second game.  Second baseman Loren Rozanski (Plainville, CT) followed with three hits.  Worcester State got three hits from sophomore Ashley Loomer (Pepperell, MA).  Nye and Kelly also had two more hits each along with freshman Treasa O'Neil (Abington, MA).  Freshman Kara Buckley (Nashua, NH) got the win while Costopoulos took the loss for Worcester State.

Worcester State returns to the field on Saturday when they travel to Salem State to take on the Lady Vikings in a MASCAC doubleheader.  Nichols will travel to Wentworth on Saturday.
