Salem, MA --- The Lady Vikings and Worcester State College spilt their Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader played this afternoon at SSC's Alumni Field. 

SSC (16-16 overall; 5-5 MASCAC) won the opener 9-0 behind the strong pitching performance of junior righty Katelyn Doherty (Lynnfield, MA). Doherty gave up just three singles in recording the five-inning victory. The Lancers (8-19 overall; 3-7 MASCAC) came back to win the nightcap, 5-0.

Offensively in the opener, the Lady Vikings were led by sophomore Amanda Scola (Leominster, MA), who went 2-for-4 including an RBI single and two-run double. Sophomore Jess Baird (Worcester, MA), who was named MASCAC Player of the Week last week, had three hits including a two-run single. Senior Sarah Funk (Newport News, VA) collected two hits, an RBI and scored twice while sophomore Erica Sonia (Lynn, MA) went 2-for-3, scored once and picked up an RBI single. Sophomore Katie Oram (Lynn, MA) added a triple and scored for the Lady Vikings.

Game two featured a strong mound effort from Worcester's Jessalyn Hyland (Swansea, MA). The junior lefty handcuffed the Lady Vikings, who were able to muster just three hits and a total of four base runners. Baird ripped a one-out single in the first, Scola stroked a one-out double in the fourth, and freshman pitcher Krystal Coleman (Chelmsford, MA) collected a single in the fifth.

Worcester banged out nine hits, including three hits and an RBI from Treasa O'Neil (Abington, MA) and two hits each from Ashley Nye (Marion, MA), who scored twice, and Katherine Kelly (Burlington, MA). Veronia Clark (Worcester, MA) produced a two-run single in the first inning. Nye scored twice while Ashley Loomer (Pepperell, MA) added a triple and scored a run. Coleman worked 6.2 innings on the hill, give up eight hits, allowed three earned runs, struck out two and walked a pair.

SSC's next games will by Monday, April 21 when the Lady Vikings host the Massachusetts Martime Academy for a 12:00 pm MASCAC doubleheader at Alumni Field.
