Softball Shines on Senior Day

Worcester, Mass. - The Worcester State University Lancers bested the Rams of Framingham State in softball doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon at Rockwood Field.

Game One: Worcester 4, Framingham 3 (8 innings)

Worcester sophomore Emily Bartlett threw eight innings for the lancers allowing seven hits, and three runs on 33 batters. Bartlett also had a game-high eight strikeouts.

Ally Moran pitched 7.2 innings for the Rams allowing seven hits and four runs. Moran served up two strikeouts and just one walk.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the second when Rachel Sinclair doubled to send Bartlett around the bases. Then, Jackie Andry moved Sinclair home on a fielding error to put Worcester up, 2-0.

Framingham's power hitter, Gwen Carpenter hit a long homerun to center field in the top of the 4th to put the Rams on the board, 1-2. Ally Gruca hit a double to send Mercedes Jimenez in to tie the game at 2-2. Carpenter struck again in the top of the fifth with a RBI triple to put the Rams on top 3-2.  

Worcester's first-year, Emma Lanpher came up big with a clutch double in the bottom of the 7th inning to send Jackie Schwalm across the plate and put the game into extra innings at an even 3-3. In the bottom of the 8th, Rachel Sinclair hit a double to center field that moved a speedy Naraylee Baez home to seal the come-from-behind victory for the Lancers.

Game Two: Worcester 4, Framingham 1

Senior Molly Glynn pitched 5.1 innings for the Lancers allowing 6 hits and just one run on 24 batters faced. Glynn threw 57 strikes in the contest, including a 16-pitch batter in the top of the 5th to protect the lead. Senior Jen Thornburn came in to throw the final 1.2 innings, throwing 12 strikes on 17 pitches to make quick work in the save.  

Caroline Hughes was on the mound for all six innings for the Rams, allowing eight hits and four runs. Hughes had four Strikeouts and tossed 46 strikes on 57 pitches.

Worcester State scored all four runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning as senior Ally Tocman send a 2-RBI double that drilled the 3rd base popping into the outfield and sent Emma Lanpher and Naraylee Baez home. First-year Ally Koziel found a hole in left center field. Koziel's hit was good for a 2 RBI double, moving Tocman and Brynna Meeker around the bases.

The Rams found some success in the batter's box in the top of the 6th and Kelsey McGuill singled down the right field line to move Shelby Roode home and put the Ram's on the board, 4-1.

The 7th inning remained scoreless as the Lancers completed the two-win day over Framingham.

Worcester State returns to action on Tuesday, April 26 versus Fitchburg State for another doubleheader.
