LANCERS WRAP SEASON IN SEMIFINAL ROUND

Bridgewater, Mass. - The second seeded Worcester State Lancers fell to the fourth seeded Framingham State University Rams, 7-4, in Saturday's elimination game of the 2022 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Tournament at Alumni Park.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

  • After two scoreless innings, the Rams got on the board first in the top of the second on a two run single to left center from Gwendolyn Carpenter. 

  • The Lancers cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI ground out from Ally Tocman that scored Rachel Sinclair and pushed Abigail Koziol to third.  

  • The Lancers pushed three across in the bottom of the fifth on a throwing error that sent Naraylee Baez home and a Koziol double that moved Sinclair and Jacqui Schwalm around the bases. The big 5th gave the Lancers a 4-2 which would hold until the top of the seventh. 

  • The Rams pushed across five runs in their final at bat to come from behind for the victory. Brooke Grassia plated a pair of runs with a single and Carpenter pushed home two more with a triple. Ava Rodriguez capped the inning with an RBI single. 

  • The Lancers threatened in the bottom of the inning, but Ally Moran recorded strikeout to end the game. 

  • Moran earned the victory in the circle going four and two thirds, allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits. 

  • Carpenter finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and four RBI, while Grassia finished the day 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.  

  • Camille Desrochers recorded a pair of hits and crossed the plate twice, while Morgan Poli added a hit and two runs scored. 

The Lancers closed their season at the 19-20 mark while Framingham State will advance to the Championship game at 11:00am, May 8th vs Bridgewater State.
