Worcester State Loses Big To George Fox; DelleChiaie reaches 1,000 point mark

Newburg, OR --- Closing out the non-conference portion of their schedule in fine fashion, the George Fox University Bruins placed 13 different players in the scoring column and cruised past the Worcester State College Lancers 87-32 in a women's basketball contest Saturday evening here at the Wheeler Sports Center's Miller Gym.

The Bruins, ranked 16th in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com, scored the first seven points of the game and never trailed in posting their third straight win.  A three-point field goal by MaryAnne Samples, part of a 13-0 run, gave George Fox its first double-digit lead at 18-6 with 12:15 left in the first half, and the home team maintained a double-figure lead the rest of the way.  The Bruins led 45-12 at the half after shooting .500 (17-34) and forcing the Lancers into 19 turnovers.

With all 13 of their players seeing 11 or more minutes of court time in the game, the Bruins continued to extend their lead in the second half.  Lindsay Keener, who hit 5-6 from the line, sank a pair of free throws with 55 seconds left for the final score and the Bruins' largest margin of the game.

Mandee Spotts and Kristen Shielee each notched their career high in points to lead the Bruins.  Spotts hit 6-9 from the field, including 3-3 on three-pointers, for 15 points, while Shielee was 6-7 inside with a free throw for 13 points.  Starters Katy Campbell and Kaleigha Ramey chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.  Melissa Marek-Farris had eight rebounds as the Bruins owned the boards 37-20, including 18 on the offensive end, and B.B. Gardner passed out six assists.  he Bruins shot .516 (33-64) for the game, including 8-15 (.533) from three-point range, and made 14 steals while committing only nine turnovers.

Lindsay DelleChiaie was the only Lancer in double figures, scoring over half of her team's points with 17 and passing the 1,000-point mark in her career.  Brianne Flanders had eight rebounds for Worcester State, and Kristen Beningo handed out three assists.  The Lancers connected on 14-37 (.378) from the field and made 27 turnovers.

George Fox (8-1) now turns its attention to Northwest Conference play, opening up with a home game against Pacific Lutheran University Friday, Jan. 4, at 6:00 p.m.  The men's NWC game will follow at 8:00 p.m.  Worcester State (2-7), after playing only one game on its trip from Massachusetts to the Pacific Northwest, returns home to take on Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 7:00 p.m.
