Alexis George Selected First-Team All-MASCAC

MASCAC Women's Basketball All-Conference Team

Worcester, MA --- Sophomore guard Alexis George has been named to the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball First-Team as announced this afternoon by conference publicist Jim Seavey. The vote was taken by each of the conferences seven head coaches earlier this week.

George, a product of Worcester, MA who attended Holy Name, is among the conference leaders in a couple of categories. She currently ranks sixth in total scoring (306), seventh in average scoring (12.2) and free throw percentage (.680), 10th in assists per contest (1.52) and 12th in field goal percentage (.373). George also has notched a team leading 39 steals, a squad fourth-best 4.4 rebounds per game with 14 blocked shots.

The fourth-seeded Lancers will play top-seed Westfield State in the semifinals of the MASCAC Tournament on Friday. They enter the contest with an overall record of 10-16 and look to try to win the tournament for the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

George is joined on the team by freshman Shelly DePina (New Bedford, MA) of Bridgewater State, senior Stephanie Payette (Townsend, MA) of Fitchburg State, junior Danielle Jenkins (Marlboro, MA) of Salem State along with senior classmates Andrea Wasuk (Lenox, MA) and Katie Sylvain (Hadley, MA) of Westfield State.

Wasuk and DePina each received the nod as MASCAC Player and Rookie of the Year, respectively, while Andrea Bertini of Westfield State was honored as conference coach of the year.
