Trinity Takes Down Women's Basketball, 50-43

Worcester, MA ---Trinity freshman Michelle Royals (Torrington, CT) recorded 21 points off the bench while junior Christine Card (Waterbury, CT) pulled down 13 rebounds to pace the Bantams to a 50-43 victory over host Worcester State this evening.

Junior Tess Donnie (Worcester, MA) notched 11 points for the visitors while Card also added seven points with four steals.

The Lancers (2-4) were led by junior Reilly O’Keefe (Warren, MA) who tallied seven points with 11 rebounds while sophomore Alexis George (Worcester, MA) scored a team-high 11 points. Junior Brianne Flanders (Southampton, MA) also grabbed nine boards for the Blue and Gold.

Worcester State led at the half 19-16 and extended their largest lead to 25-18 on the back of a three-point shot by George at 18:08. The Bantams would rally and tie the score three minutes later with back-to-back layups by Royals. After an O’Keefe jumper, Trinity would hold WSC scoreless for more than four minutes of play as the visitors put up a 33-27 lead with 11:56 left to play.

WSC senior Erin McCullogh (Harvard, MA) sank two free throws and then O’Keefe hit a field goal to get within two points, but Royals and Donnie would combine to shoot three trey’s to extend their largest lead to 43-32 with 6:17 on the clock.

The Lancers trimmed the lead to six with two minutes left on a three-point play by George, but a jump shot by Card would give Trinity an eight point lead to help win the contest.

Trinity (5-0) parlayed 29 Lancer turnovers into 19 points while they also held WSC to 20% (3-for-15) from beyond the arc. Worcester State held the Bantams to just 18% (4-for-22) from the floor in the first half and 29% (16-for-54) while shooting 28% from the field for the game.

The Lancers will travel to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday for a 2 PM matchup while Trinity hosts NCAA participant Becker at 7:30.
