Women's Basketball Bounces Back With 68-40 Win Over UMaine Presque Isle

Middletown, CT --- Worcester State defeated UMaine Presque Isle, 68-40, in the consolation game of the Wesleyan Courtyard Marriot Inn Invitational this afternoon.

Leading 13-9 at the 14-minute mark of the first half, the Lancers (2-5) rattled off 17 unanswered points over the next nine minutes to take a commanding 30-9 edge.

UMaine Presque Isle (0-5) got as close as 16 (32-16) in the closing stages of the period and trailed 35-20 after scoring the opening basket of the second half but 15 consecutive Lancer points in a four-minute span pushed the difference to 56-24 and the lead was never less that 26 over the final 10 minutes of the contest.  

Each team had a player with a double-double as senior Kaleigh Charette (Fairhaven, MA) collected 13 points, 11 rebounds and six steals for Worcester State while sophomore Rashell Saucier (Washburn, ME) took game-high honors in both points and rebounds with 19 and 14, respectively.  Both players were selected to the all-tournament team.  

Sophomore Meaghan Burns (W. Brookfield, MA) led the Lancers with 16 points and added three assists.  

Worcester State forced the Owls into 26 turnovers with 16 steals and held a 47-29 margin on the glass. They would parlay nearly half of their opponents miscues points with a 29-8 advantage.

The Lancers will travel to Hartford to play Trinity (CT) on Tuesday at 7:30 while UMaine Presque Isle heads to Pine Manor tomorrow for a 1 o'clock.
