Frankian Sets Worcester State’s Consecutive Free Throw Mark

Worcester, MA ---   Sophomore Julie Frankian (Millbury, MA) has distinguished herself by shattering the Worcester State women's basketball record for consecutive free throws this past week.

Frankian sank an astounding 34 straight tries at the line over the course of 11 games between each of the last two campaigns. She eclipsed the mark that was set during the 2009-10 season of 23 continuous free throws that was established by former standout Kaleigh Charette (2008-12).

The streak started on January 10 against Suffolk when Frankian canned all four of her attempts in the second half and lasted until she missed a bonus try against Trinity this past Tuesday in the first half on December 3.

Amazingly, the most Frankian attempted in one contest was six – a feat that she did twice during the course of this campaign against UMass Dartmouth in a win and versus and versus Mt. Saint Vincent in a setback.

Frankian is currently seventh in Division III with a 0.966 free throw percentage (28-for-29) as she leads New England in the category.

Through her first eight games of the season, Frankian is currently averaging 12.8 points, 6.8 rebounds to go with 22 assists. She currently leads the Lancers in average boards and field goal percentage (0.471) while her points per game are second on the team.

Worcester State (3-5) closes out their fall semester with a road matchup against Bowdoin tonight at 7 PM and a home meeting with Springfield on Friday at 7:30 which will be played at WPI.
