Perez Tabbed Co-WACBA Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week

Worcester, MA --- Freshman Nani Perez (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) has been named Co-Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Rookie of the Week for her outstanding all-around performance in a 1-1 week for Worcester State.

Perez averaged 5.5 points, 7.5 assists and 6.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week which included nine points, nine boards and five swipes in a 54-51 setback against Salem State and 10 helpers with six steals in a 50-41 victory against MCLA.

Among MASCAC leaders after Wednesday's games, Perez is second in the conference in average assists (4.5 APG) and she reached the century mark for the season (100) with a dishing out a trio in a gritty 50-44 win over Bridgewater State yesterday.

In assist to turnover ratio, Perez is also tied for sixth (1.1) with those in the MASCAC who have averaged at least 25.0 minutes per game. She has also been solid at generating her own offense at the charity stripe with the eighth highest free throw percentage in the league (.708 – 46-for-65).

Perez earned her first WACBA Rookie of the Week accolade of the season this past week for handing out 10 helpers in a win against Framingham State on January 29. She shares this week's WACBA honor with former high school teammate Amy Biney (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) of WPI.

After yesterday's win over the Bears, Worcester State is currently 14-8 overall and 5-4 in the MASCAC and still in the hunt for a home game in the upcoming conference tournament. The Lancers finish off their week with a key match-up against Westfield State this Saturday on the road at 1 PM.
