Frankian Earns D3hoops.com Team of the Week, NEWBA, WACBA Laurels

Minneapolis, MN --- Julie Frankian (Millbury, MA) has been recognized on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week and with New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Player of the Week accolades for her efforts in a 2-0 week for Worcester State.

She also received a nod as the Co-Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Frankian averaged 25.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals which included 26 points, six boards and two swipes in a 61-48 victory over Fitchburg State before she notched 24 points with six caroms and four trifectas in a 74-50 triumph against Framingham State.

The senior was instrumental in helping the Lancers clinch a home game in the opening round of this week's MASCAC Tournament as she sank .485 percent of her shots for the week (14-29) and went .842 percent from the free throw line (16-for-19).

Among conference leaders, Frankian is second in the MASCAC in total points (393), average scoring (15.7 PPG) and free throw percentage (.833) while she is also fourth in free throws made (101), seventh in field goal percentage (.427) and 14th in rebounds per game (5.8).

Since the initial NCAA Division III rankings, Frankian's name has appeared near the top in three-point percentage. As of this past Monday, she tops New England in the category with the fifth-best three-point clip in the nation at .461 (59-for-128).

Frankian's four triples versus Framingham State reset a 15-year mark for three-pointers made in a single campaign, previously held by Sherri Kelly when she established the record during the 1999-2000 season.

The last WSU student-athlete to earn NEWBA Player of the Week and D3hoops.com Team of the Week honors was current second-year assistant coach Meaghan O'Keefe on January 21, 2013.

It also marked the second time this season that Frankian was lauded by the Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA), with her last coming on November 25. She shared this week's nod with sophomore Christina Gauvin (Dudley, MA) of Anna Maria.

Worcester State (16-9, 7-5 MASCAC) has earned the third seed in the conference tournament and will host #6 Salem State on Tuesday at Clark in a 7 PM tip-off this Tuesday. The winner plays second-seeded Bridgewater State on Thursday at 5:30.
