Women’s Basketball Claims First Win of 2015-16 Season against Becker in Consolation Game

LEICESTER, Mass. - Becker College fell to the Worcester State University Lancers 56-34 in the consolation game of the 35th Annual Worcester City Tournament. The loss drops the Hawks record to 0-2 while the Lancers slide to 1-1 and claim their first win on the 2015-16 season.

 

The Lancers were led by Brianna Hackett (Hollis, N.H.) with a game-high 23 points. Britt Herring (West Brookfield, Mass.) earned a double-double after scoring 20 points and pulling down a game-best 14 rebounds. She also registered a game-high five blocks on the afternoon. TaNajia Smith (South Windsor, Conn.) dished out a game-high seven assists.

 

Becker freshman Adrianna Dowdy (East Haven, Conn.) earned her first collegiate double-double, tallying 11 points and 11 boards.  Freshman Avrie Bassingthwaite (Swanzey, N.H.) finished seven points and eight boards off the bench.

 

Worcester State shot 40.4 percent from the field, and 30.8 from three-point range. The Lancers' defense kept Becker College's shooting percentages to 16.7 and 0.00 percent, respectively.

 

Becker returns to the court on Thursday, Nov. 19 when they travel to non-conference rival Anna Maria College at 7:00 p.m. Worcester State will head to Mount Holyoke College on Wednesday, November 18 for a 7:00 p.m. tip off.
