Lancers Fall to Rams, 75-51

WORCESTER, Mass—The Worcester State Lancers fell to MASCAC foe Framingham State Saturday afternoon 78-51 at the Harrington Auditorium. The loss was Worcester's second in a row which dropped the Lancers to 5-12, 2-3 in the MASCAC and the Rams improved to 12-5, 4-1 in MASCAC action.

 
 

The Lancers struggled from the beyond the arc the entire game, as they only shot 8.3% (1-12). The Rams were much more successful going 28.6% (6-21) from behind the 3-point line. The Rams shot 48.5% (33-68) from the field, while Worcester State once again struggled with a 28.6 (18-63) field goal percentage overall.

 


Both teams were even in the rebound department as Framingham had 42 and Worcester had a close 39. The Lancers did, however, have a lead in the offensive rebounds as they out-rebounded the Rams 16-11. The Rams held the advantage in defensive rebounds with 31 to the Lancers' 23.

 
 

The Rams were aggressive all afternoon and had a total of 15 steals, hurting the Lancers' momentum for most of the 40 minutes. The Lancers could only manage six steals and could not seem to break the Rams' effort.

 
 

After the start of the second quarter the Lancers could not manage to come with in 15 points of the Rams. Going into the locker room at intermission, the Rams managed to have a 26 point advantage and from then on the lead would only continue to grow.

 
 

The second half grew to be more lopsided then the first half as at one point the Rams held a 39 point advantage at 3:16 in the fourth quarter. The Lancers did show their fight as they closed the gap to 27 points with 10 seconds remaining in the game.

 
 

Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) led both teams with a game-high 20 points and also had 10 rebounds for one of two double-doubles in the game. Scoring 19 points for the Rams was Reagan Mulherin (Baldwinville, Mass.) who tapped in 19 points and a game-high six steals. Off the bench, Quinn O'Connell (Sterling, Mass.) recorded 13 points and added in three assists and two steals in 25 minutes. Monta Connolly (Lynn, Mass.) added in eight points for the Black and Yellow, while registering nine rebounds, five assists, four steals, and two blocks.

 
 

The Lancers' offensive leader was freshman center Britt Herring (W. Brookfield, Mass.) who caused issues for the Rams in the paint for most of the game. She racked up a double-double of 17 points and also led the game with 12 rebounds.

 
 

Worcester State is back in action with their next matchup at Westfield State on Wednesday (Jan. 27) for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. The Rams will also hit the road on Wednesday to take on Fitchburg State - also for a 5:30 p.m. game time.
