Women’s Basketball to Host 10th Annual Math Madness Game on January 8

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's basketball team is set to host its 10th annual "Math Madness" event on Monday (Jan. 8) at 12 noon inside the Lancer Gymnasium.

"We are excited to host this annual event," mentioned Worcester State head coach Karen Tessmer.  "It is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to bond with the local Worcester public schools and we enjoy having the Worcester community come to cheer on the Lancers."

Worcester State (6-5) will be matching up against the No. 1/2 team in the country, Tufts University (10-1), who is coached by central Mass. standout native, Carla Berube. The event will allow local children in the Worcester area an opportunity to enhance their math skills through basketball.

"Math Madness gives the students a practical way to use math," said Tessmer.

Students from the May Street School, Chandler Magnet, Forest Grove, and Flagg Street will be in attendance and will be given grade-appropriate math packets with questions pertaining to player's statistics, scores, averages, court dimensions, etc.

Immediately following the conclusion of the contest, both women's basketball teams will have an autograph session where the students can meet the Lancers of Worcester State, and the Jumbos of Tufts.
