LeMay Has Double-Double as Lancers Top Clark in Worcester City Tournament

WORCESTER, Mass. – Gigi LeMay (Grafton, Mass.) scored 26 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as the Worcester State women's basketball team (1-0) opened its season with a 57-52 win over Clark (0-1) in the first game of the Worcester City Tournament from the Kneller Gymnasium.

Worcester ended the first quarter on an 11-2 run to take an 18-12 lead into the second quarter, but the Cougars outscored them by a similar margin and the teams went to the break tied at 30.

The Lancers outscored the Cougar 14-9 in the third quarter, the eventual difference in the game. They ended that quarter on a 7-2 run.

LeMay was an efficient 12-19 from the floor and had 10 rebounds on the defensive end alone. She also filled the stat sheet with three assists, four steals and a block.

Sarah Blomgren (Lunenberg, Mass.) and Erin Gallella (Tewksbury, Mass.) added eight points apiece and Calli Korbey (Hopkinton, Mass.) dished out a team-high five assists. Elizabeth Gallella () had seven rebounds, a category the Lancers led 40-37.

Worcester shot 38% from the field and made 4-11 three pointers. Clark got to the free throw line 29 times to just 16 attempts for Worcester.

The Lancers will play in the Worcester City Tournament championship game against WPI at 3:00 PM tomorrow. Clark will play Anna Maria at 1:00 PM in the consolation game.
