Worcester State Women's Basketball Releases 2022-23 Season Schedule

Worcester, MA - Worcester State University Women’s Basketball has announced their 2022-23 competition schedule, led by Karen Tessmer who begins her 29th season as the head coach of the Blue and Gold. The Lancers finished with an 12-14 (6-6, MASCAC) record and lost to eventual tournament champions Framingham State in the semi-finals. Worcester State looks to continue their MASCAC dominance when they open conference play with a trip to Salem State on January 4.

The Lancers will be led by seniors Elizabeth Gallella, MASCAC Second Team selection last season, and starting point guard Erin Gallella; along with a strong nucleus of returning players, including 5th year senior Sarah Blomgren and Junior Nyah Thomas, with talented newcomers that each hope to continue their success.

Worcester State will open up their new season with a trip down the road to WPI for the Worcester City Tip Off Tournament where they will square up with Clark University on day one, followed by either Anna Maria of WPI on the second day. The Lancers host their season home opener on Nov 17, hosting New England College. The following weekend has the team on the road to Connecticut to participate in the Wesleyan University Tournament that has them facing off against Rivier on day one, followed by Wesleyan the following day. Worcester State return home for a four-game stretch that will see them match up with Keene State, Wellesley, MIT and Springfield before traveling back to Connecticut to take on Trinity. The final games of 2022 will have the Lancers crossing time zones as the team travels to the University of Hawaii-Hilo to compete against Saint Benedict and Lake Forest in the Big Island Classic.

With a strong non-conference schedule to prep them, Worcester State kicks off 2023 with the start of the MASCAC schedule with a trip to Salem State before they return home to host Amherst on January 9, which will also play host to the Math Madness game. The MASCAC games begin in earnest on January 11 when the Bridgewater Bears travel to Worcester, followed by the Westfield Owls. The remainder of the schedule has the Lancers traveling twice away, before hosting their own two in Worcester. The travel sees the team on the road to Fitchburg State, MCLA before hosting Framingham State and Salem St, which will also be the annual Alumni Day game for Worcester State. The pattern continues for Worcester State with a repeat match versus Bridgewater and Westfield, this time on their home courts, before hosting the Play4Kay game on February 11 versus Fitchburg State. The final home game of the season, February 15 against MCLA, will also play host to Senior Night for the Blue and Gold. The team will wrap up their regular season on February 18, with a trip to rival Framingham St.
