Lancers Unable to Overcome Pride in Non-Conference Loss

Worcester, MA- The Women's Basketball team traveled to Springfield College Tuesday, December 5th, for a notoriously difficult out of conference game against the Pride.

First year Lena Waldron (Quincy, MA) made the first points of the game for Worcester State with a jump shot. As the ball went up and down the court, the score remained close, and a three-pointer from senior Katie Hurynowicz (Tyngsboro, MA) had the Lancers just two points shy of the Pride. Springfield was able to dig in and make multiple shots while shutting the Lancers down defensively, not allowing any points for a few minutes. The Pride were able to create a large gap on the scoreboard between the Lancers during this stretch. Worcester made several rebounds in the last minutes of the period to gain several more shot opportunities to cut into the deficit before the clock ran out. The first half ended 29-43.

Springfield continued to dominate the court in the second half. Angela Czeremcha (West Springfield, MA) and Amanda Leary (Westbury, NY) led Springfield in points with 15 and 18, respectively. Worcester State's Hurynowicz had 20 points for the Lancers and 6 rebounds. The Lancers continued to fight until the clock ran out, earning more points to end the game in a 57-78 loss.

The Lancers next host Salve Regina on Saturday for their last game before Christmas break begins. Tip-off begins at 1pm.
