Hurynowicz Scores 24 Points In Loss To Salve Regina

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers (1-8, 0-0 MASCAC) tipped off against Salve Regina in a non-conference matchup before the team goes on break.

END FIRST HALF: SALVE REGINA 36 LANCERS 23

 

The Lancers found themselves down early after the first quarter 21-15. They would be outscored in the second quarter 15-8 entering halftime down 36-23. 

 

Senior forward Katie Hurynowicz (Tyngsboro, MA) led Lancer scorers with 10 points, adding three rebounds, two assists, and one steal. 

 

Junior forward Abby St. Martin injured her ankle in the first half but she would come back into the game and finish the half with five points with one three-pointer, two rebounds, and one assist. 

 

END SECOND HALF/ FINAL: SALVE REGINA 74 LANCERS 61

 

The second half was a battle of the boards. The Lancers were down early in the third 43-29. They would be outscored the whole third quarter 56-39 entering the fourth quarter.

 

St. Martin went 5-7 from the field while also going 1-2 from three-point range in the third quarter, finishing the third quarter with 11 points.

 

The fourth quarter was played hard by the Lancers as they chipped away at the lead to find themselves down only eight at one point.

 

Hurynowicz had a big fourth quarter and finished her night with 24 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Sophomore guard Siarra Francis (Marlborough, MA) ended the afternoon with nine points, six rebounds, and two steals.  

 

With the loss, the Lancers record falls to (1-9, 0-0 MASCAC) while Salve Regina improves to (4-7, 0-0 NEWMAC).

 

The Lancers will travel to Demorest, Georgia for their next game where they will face off against the Piedmont University Lions (5-2, 0-0 CCS) at the Cave Arena for their winter break trip.
