Team Work Sends Lancers Powering Past Trailblazers

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers (2-16, 1-4 MASCAC) tipped off against the MCLA Trailblazers (4-14, 1-4 MASCAC) in the team's sixth conference game of the season.

FINAL: LANCERS 75 | MCLA 25

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lancers started the game hot jumping out to a 20-4 lead over the Trailblazers to set the pace for the game action.

Senior Katie Hurynowicz (Tyngsboro, Mass) opened up the scoring by draining a highlight-reel-worthy three-pointer. The team's symmetry with one another only continued throughout the first quarter. After every pass, lay-up, and three-point conversion were completed, the Lancers would go into halftime with a lead of 38-8.

First year Lena Waldron (Quincy, Mass) led all scorers in the first half with 10 as Hurynowicz finished with nine points. Zaylee Ramos (Worcester, Mass) finished as the Trailblazers highest scorer with six points with Caroline Schmaling (Halifax, Mass) trailing her. Down by thirty points at the half, the MCLA Trailblazers would need to dig their way out of a deep deficit, although the persistent Lancers would dog their every opportunity.

The pace of the Lancers play would not slow down following halftime, it would only progress allowing their star power and team chemistry to flourish tonight. Ath the conclusion of the game, each Lancers who entered the court would record a basket on the night. To start the second half, sophomore Cameron Watkins (Dracut, MA) went up where she was met with contact for a foul, draining one out of two free throws from the stripe. After a rally by MCLA, Waldron hit, not one, but two three-pointers in the third quarter to put the Lancers up 60-14.

One more quarter of action, and a plethora of points later, the Worcester's State Lancers would come out of the game with a win over the MCLA Trailblazers, (75 - 25). Not only would the Lancer's solid offensive play be reflected with their 75 points, but their defensive abilities held the Trailblazers to just 25 points throughout the night while Worcester grabbed 39 rebounds on the night.

Waldron would end the night with 18 points, three rebounds and five steals, while Hurynowicz would conclude with 16 points, three rebounds and two steals. Coming off the bench, first year Alana Smith (Chicopee, MA) would end the game with 10 points and nine rebounds.
