Women's Hockey Downed by Suffolk in Second Half of Home and Home

EAST BOSTON, Mass. -- Worcester State women's hockey fell to Suffolk for the second straight game, dropping a 5-1 decision on Saturday night at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

Suffolk improves to 4-0 on the year, while the Lancers even their record at 2-2.

Worcester State leveled the score on the power play 13:36 into the second stanza when Cassidhe Wozniak (Turners Falls, Mass.) scored from Kaite Puumala (Framingham, Mass.) and Kylian Kelly (Shrewsbury, Mass.). It's the team-leading fourth goal of the year for Wozniak.

That goal came after the Rams had opened the scoring when Sofia Scilipoti scored at the 2:51 mark, the only goal of the first period.

Shana Cote, who assisted on Scilipoti's first period goal, put away a feed from Scilipoti just 1:05 after Wozniak's marker, and the Rams took a 2-1 lead to the third period.

From there, Suffolk scored three times to add insurance to their lead, as Sydney Tietz netted at 1:52 into the period and Maddy Burton scored twice in the span of four minutes.

Amber Lee (Nashua, N.H.) had 44 stops between the pipes for Worcester, while Hannah Gordon made 17 saves to earn the victory for the Rams.

Suffolk turns its attention to its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) campaign as the Rams drop the puck on their conference calendar next weekend against Curry.

Worcester is home next Friday at 8:10 PM for the first part of a home and home against Western New England.
