After Exciting Overtime, Lancers & Camels Settle for 2-2 Tie

WORCESTER, Mass. – Chances were plentiful for both sides in an extra period that included a Worcester State powerplay, but after 65 minutes, the Lancers and Connecticut College finished in a 2-2 tie in women's hockey action on Friday evening at Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.

Amber Lee (Nashua, N.H.) made 40 saves for the Lancers (5-2-2), who are unbeaten in their last five outings. Lee had four stops in overtime, while Carly Denora (Verona, N.J.) made five saves in the extra period and 23 on the night for the Camels (1-4-1).

After falling behind from two Camel goals in the second period, Worcester State got on the board in the final minute of the frame. Cassidhe Wozniak (Turners Falls, Mass.) notched her sixth goal of the year with assists from Katie Puumala (Framingham, Mass.) and Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.), and the second period ended with the visitors ahead 2-1.

Camille Phelan (Medfield, Mass.) gave Conn. College the lead at 13:35 on a feed from Melanie Conca (Nutley, N.J.). Conca doubled their advantage two and a half minutes later to notch her second point of the night. Caroline O'Keefe (Winthrop, Mass.) grabbed the assist on Conca's goal.

Worcester tied the game midway through the third when Conway scored her fourth of the year, with Puumala picking up another assist. Puumala, Conway and Wozniak all co-lead the team with 11 points.

The Lancers have a quick turnaround with a game at Nichols tomorrow at 5:40 PM at Levy Rink in Harrisville, R.I.

The Camels have a bit more time to rest, as they will take the rest of the weekend off before hosting UMass Boston on Tuesday at 7:00.
