Pavoni, Conway Stay Hot as Lancers Top Greyhounds, 4-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – Emily Pavoni (Granby, Mass.) scored for the fourth straight game and Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.) recorded her second consecutive hat trick as the Worcester State women's ice hockey team defeated Assumption 4-1 in an Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) matchup on Friday evening at Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.

Pavoni, who now has five goals and six points over the last four games, opened the scoring in the second period after a scoreless first 20 minutes. Conway got on the scoresheet three minutes later with the first of her three goals, and then made it 3-0 Worcester State at 7:15 of the third period when she beat Caroline McDonough again in the Greyhounds net.

Though the game will count officially as an exhibition, the Lancers do pick up two points in the ECHA standings, improving to 2-0 in games against Assumption, Anna Maria, and Rivier. That ties the Lancers with Assumption, who stay on 4 points, but have played three more Alliance games already (2-3).

Amber Lee (Nashua, N.H.) made 20 saves and allowed just one goal, keeping pace on her Alliance-leading save percentage of .950.

Conway finished off her hat trick with under a minute and a half remaining, with Amy MacGlashing (Marlborough, Mass.) picking up her third assist of the night on the empty night insurance goal.

Worcester returns to action at home next Friday night when they host UNE at 8:20 at Worcester Ice Center. The next day, they will return for a rematch against Assumption.
