FIVE SEPARATE LANCERS SCORE AS WOMEN'S HOCKEY BESTS ASSUMPTION, 5-1

WORCESETER, Mass. – Five separate Lancers register goals as the Worcester State women's ice hockey team defeated Assumption University 5-1 in an Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) matchup on Sunday evening at Buffone Arena in Worcester.

Layna Pereiro (Chicago, IL) opened the scoring for the Lancers with just under three minutes of play on a power play goal assisted by junior, Shelby Reaugh (Raleigh, NC) and sophomore, Sydney Vautour (South Hamilton, MA). The Lancers would strike again on what would prove to be the eventual game winner on a Cassidhe Wozniak (Turners Falls, MA) goal at the 9:00 mark of the first period. Vautour picked up the puck deep in Greyhounds territory, slid it over to sophomore Amy MacGlashing (Marlboro, MA) who shot the puck. Assumption goaltender, Kaitlin Oatley made the initial save, but Wozniak popped the rebound passed the outstretched netminder.

The Greyhounds added the only score of the second period as Sam Porazinksi beat Worcester's junior goaltender, Amber Lee (Nashua, NH) on the power play. The goal was setup as Jacqui Poulack received the puck just below the goal line and slid it out front to Nora Birmingham who released a shot. Lee made the initial stop, but Porazinski scooped up the rebound and found the back of the net to bring the score within one.

The Lancers found a scoring surge in the third period, kicked off by junior Katie Puumala (Framingham, MA) at the 19:06 mark. Puumala's tally was assisted by Wozniak and senior defensemen, Kylian Kelly (Shrewsbury, MA). Senior, Clare Conway (Billerica, MA) added the fourth goal of the night with helpers from sophomore Ellen Cook (Becket, MA) and Wozniak at the 6:12 mark. The final score came on the power play less than a minute later from a Julia Ravenelle (Barrington, NH) shot, assisted by Vautour and senior Gabby Petrisin (High Bridge, NJ)

Lee recorded 27 saves and allowed just one goal in the contest, while Oatley stopped 41 shots.

Though the game will count officially as an exhibition, the Lancers pick up two points in the ECHA, improving to 3-0 in ECHA play.

Worcester returns to action tomorrow night as they travel to New England College for a 7:00pm start.
