Lancers Celebrate Senior Night with Emphatic Win over Raiders

WORCESTER, Mass. – All four players honored during Senior Day celebrations got on the scoresheet on Friday evening as the Worcester State women's ice hockey team defeated Rivier University 9-0 in Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) action at Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.

Before the game, the Lancers recognized the careers of seniors Kylian Kelly (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Julia Ravenelle (Barrington, N.H.), Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.) and Gabby Petrisin (High Bridge, N.J.).

Conway registered her fourth consecutive multi-goal game and scored for the ninth consecutive game. Ravenelle and Petrisin found the back of the net as well, while Kelly had three assists, including a helper on the game-winning goal.

Cassidhe Wozniak (Turners Falls, Mass.) had a hat trick in the win for Worcester State (12-6-2, 5-0 ECHA), who outshot the Raiders (1-13-3, 0-3-1 ECHA) 31-3 in the opening 20 minutes on their way to a 58-11 advantage in attempts on goal.

The Lancers roared out of the gate with four goals in the opening ten minutes and took a 5-0 lead to the locker room.

They were 2-2 on the powerplay to start the game, with Conway and Wozniak scoring with the extra skater in the opening 20 minutes.

Brandi Lee (Nashua, N.H.) and Ravenelle scored less than a minute and a half apart before Conway made it 4-0 with her second goal of the period at 9:40.

Wozniak converted on the power-play in the final minutes of the first period, and would go on to record her hat trick with a pair of goals in the final three minutes of play in the third.

The second was relatively quiet comparatively, but the Lancers added to their lead when Petrisin snuck a shot through the pads of Rivier junior goalie Maddy Morgan (Riverside, Calif.). It's the first goal as a Lancer for Petrisin.

Kiersten Erickson (Broomfield, Colo.) scored her second collegiate goal at 16:30 of the second when she snapped home a pass from Brandi Lee, who added an assist to her account after scoring in the first period.

The teams played a scoreless third period until Wozniak scored twice in the last 2:14. She followed up her own rebound on a breakaway for her second goal of the net, and then found herself face to face with a wide-open net and tucked away her hat trick just seconds before the final horn sounded. The junior forward now has 15 goals on the season, second only to Conway.

Amber Lee (Nashua, N.H.) made 11 saves to earn the shutout, her second of the season. Morgan, who was under siege all night, made 49 stops in the Rivier net.

The Lancers and Raiders will head up to Nashua, N.H. for a rematch of tonight's contest tomorrow evening. Puck drop at Conway Arena is set for 7:20 PM.
