Worcester State 1, Framingham State 1 2 OT
Framingham, MA --- The Framingham State College women’s
soccer team battled Worcester State to a 1-1 double overtime tie in
Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC)
women’s soccer action this afternoon at Maple Street Field.
The Rams improve to 4-9-1 on the season and 1-3-1 in conference
while the Lancers move to 6-5-3 overall and 2-0-3 in the
MASCAC.
After a scoreless first half where both teams had their
opportunities to score, the Rams were able to take a 1-0 lead in
the 71st minute of play. Sophomore Kelly Olsen (Stoneham, MA) sent
the ball thru the Lancers defense and Megan Gangell (Lee, MA) was
able to collect the pass and beat the Lancer keeper with a shot to
the corner for the game’s first goal.
The Lancers picked up their offensive pressure and were able to
knot the game in the 80th of play as sophomore Christina
Vernaci (Saugus, MA) sent a cross to Danielle
Clifford (Attleboro, MA) who knocked it home to tie the
game at 1-1 with 10:20 remaining.
Framingham State goalkeeper Kia Minor (Oak Bluffs, MA) had an
outstanding game as she made 12 saves including several in overtime
to preserve the tie. Junior Rachael Armenti (West
Boylston, MA) was equally impressive making eight saves for the
Lancers.
The Rams return to action on Saturday as the travel to Bridgewater
State at noon, while the Lancers host Massachusetts Maritime
Academy on Saturday at 10 AM.
