Maunsell, Archer Help Women's Soccer Blank Albertus Magnus, 2-0

New Haven, CT --- Senior Laura Maunsell (Medford, MA) registered a goal and an assist while junior Shelby Archer (Dayville, CT) potted the game-winning tally as Worcester State defeated Albertus Magnus, 2-0, in their season opener this afternoon on the road.

Archer helped give her team the early 1-0 advantage in the 12th minute when she drilled a shot from the top of the box, off a feed from Maunsell.

The Lancers extended their lead with a much-needed marker in the 63rd minute for the 2-0 margin. Maunsell hit the back of the net for WSU by redirecting a free kick by sophomore Nicole Parenteau (Chicopee, MA).

Sophomore Jillian Witkowski (Leicester, MA) stopped all five shots she saw for the Blue and Gold while second-year Maria Case (West Haven, CT) collected seven saves in the setback for the Falcons.

The contest was as even in nearly every category, with notable exception to the final score. Both were equal in shots (16-16) and the Lancers held the slim 5-4 in corners.

Worcester State travels to 2012 NCAA Division III Tournament Sectional Semifinal foe MIT on Tuesday for a 7 PM matchup. Albertus Magnus heads to Bard for a 1 o'clock matchup tomorrow.
