Salem State, Women's Soccer Draw In Scoreless Double Overtime Tie

Salem, MA --- Worcester State and Salem State played to a scoreless tie in double overtime this afternoon in MASCAC women's soccer action at Salem State's Alumni Field.

With the draw the Lancers move to 7-5-2 on the season (2-1-2 MASCAC) while the Vikings are now 5-5-2 overall and 2-2-1 in league action.

The hosts held the 9-8 edge in shots while the Blue and Gold led in corner kicks 6-3.

In the waning moments of the first period, freshman Angelina Sutherland (Tyngsboro, MA) recorded a shot on goal before SSU freshman Allison Celia (Hopkinton, MA) was bounced off the post.

Worcester State couldn't make the most of their six corner kick opportunities in the second half – with senior Gaby Gonet (Agawam, MA) and classmate Brittany Rotatori (Auburn, MA) both recording attempts on net in the frame.

Sophomore Leah Wood (Loveland, OH) had an early bid that was high and another that rang the post for the Vikings.

The extra session saw WSU hold the 4-3 margin in shots with wide attempts by Gonet and sophomore Alicia Macomber (Stoughton, MA) in overtime.

Freshman Vanessa O'Donnell (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) and Salem State sophomore Rachel Ledbetter (Dracut, MA) helped backstop their teams, respectively. O'Donnell turned aside all five of the shots she saw on net while Ledbetter collected six saves.

Worcester State heads to Westfield State next week for a 1 o'clock meeting on Saturday while Salem State travels to Cambridge for a 7 PM meeting against regionally-ranked MIT.
