Women’s Soccer Defeated by Wheaton Lyons in the First Game of the Season

NORTON, Mass. – The Worcester State University Lancers dropped their first game of the season to the Wheaton College Lyons on Wednesday night at Mirrione Stadium.

 

After a scoreless first half, the Wheaton Lyons struck the Worcester State Lancers with three goals off of nine shots in the second, only allowing Worcester State to score one goal with eight minutes remaining on the clock.

 

Worcester State's senior Kiley Hardy (Pepperell, Mass.), scored the Lancer's only goal on an assist from freshman midfielder Nikki DiPilla (Sterling, Mass.). Hardy starts the season out with a 1.000 shooting percentage, as that was her only shot on the night.

 

In addition to Hardy's goal, four other Lancers were able to get shots on goal including, senior Alicia Macomber (Stoughton, Mass.), freshman Jenna Martin (Salem, N.H.), junior Beth Spinazzola (Westford, Mass.), and freshman Tsara LeBlanc (Gardner, Mass.), each with one apiece.

 

Throughout the game, the Lyons outnumbered the Lancers 18-7 in shots, and had one more corner kick opportunity than did the Lancers.

 

Worcester State's goalie, Jillian Witkowski (Leicester, Mass.), played the full 90 minutes, and recorded three saves on the night.

 

Next up the Lancers will face Rhode Island College on the road on Sep. 5 at 1:00 p.m.
