LeBlanc and Macomber Net Second Half Goals to Carry Lancers to 2-0 Victory over Salem State

SALEM,  Mass. --  Salem State hosted MASCAC opponent Worcester State in their annual "Think Pink" game at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon. The Lancers prevailed 2-0 as Tsara LeBlanc (Gardner, Mass.) and Alicia Macomber (Stoughton, Mass.) each netted second half goals to carry the Lancers to victory.

 

With the win, Worcester State improves to 9-4-2 and remains unbeaten in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference play at 5-0-1.The Vikings slide to 4-9-1, and 2-4 in conference. 


 
Neither team was able to generate much offense in the first half as the action centered around midfield. Worcester State had the first quality scoring chance of the period as Macomber directed a shot that caught the right outside post midway through the period. Later, Macomber had a clean look from five yards out, but her shot went directly into the arms of goalie Melissa Toomey (Saugus, Mass.).

 

In the second half, Worcester State dominated possession, outshooting Salem State 10-2 in the period. LeBlanc broke the scoreless tie in the 47th minute, when she outraced the Vikings' defense, and broke in from the right side to beat Toomey low for a 1-0 lead.  Macomber iced the game in the 76th minute, firing a shot from 12 yards out off her left foot that found the back of the net.  



Senior Jillian Witkowski (Leicester, Mass.) made two saves to notch her ninth shutout of the season. Toomey kept the Vikings in the game, registering two saves for Salem State, which has lost three straight.



The Vikings return to action this Tuesday when they travel to Johnson and Wales for a 6:30 p.m. match, while the Lancers host UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
