WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's soccer team scored three goals and held the visiting Westfield State Owls to just one, accomplishing a 3-1 victory over their rivals Saturday evening in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup.

1^ST HALF

Despite firing off nine shots (four on goal) and dominating the first half of play, Westfield State gave up one goal in the 41^st minute when Tsara LeBlanc (Gardner, Mass.) found a head on the ball following a free kick 45-yards out and sliced it past Westfield's goaltender, Natalia Falcone (Sutton, Mass.) for the 1-0 lead. The visitors outshot the Lancers by a 9-3 margin in the first stanza.

2^ND HALF

The teams traded shots to begin the half, until Westfield State logged four back-to-back shots in a two-minute period (56-57^th minutes). Though, not one was able to get past the hands of Worcester's freshman keeper, Jill Zinkus (Grafton, Mass.). Worcester State extended their lead to two in the 65^th minute when they were awarded a free kick 35-yards out. Freshman Rachel Dixson (Douglas, Mass.) arced the ball over the defenders and tucked the ball perfectly in the top-right corner, just kissing the crossbar. In the 79^th minute, Kaitlin Beluzo (East Longmeadow, Mass.) turned on her defender and kicked the ball off a bounce and soared it up and over Westfield's goaltender for the 3-0 advantage. Westfield State's Morgan Remington (Enfield, Conn.) spoiled the shutout for Zinkus in the 87^th minute when she scored on an assist from Bella Eduardo (Springfield, Mass.) off a free kick.

A NUMBERS GAME

• The Lancers' attack was led by Beluzo who took four shots on net on the evening. Maddie Fong (Norton, Mass.) and Nikki DiPilla (Sterling, Mass.) logged three and two shots, respectively.
• For the foes, Eduardo and Remington led the offense with five and four shots, respectively.
• Worcester's goaltender, Zinkus, stopped 8-of-9 shots on net in the win.
• Westfield's Falcone made four saves in the 90-minute performance.
• Despite the win for Worcester State, Westfield State held a 22-12 cushion in shots.
• Each team rattled off four corner kicks apiece.
