WORCESTER, Mass. – Not only did Worcester State defeat Massachusetts Maritime by a score of 7-0 on the Lancers' senior day, but they also earned a share of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season title and Worcester State's rookie, Maddie Fong (Norton, Mass.) broke the Worcester State school record for assists in a single season (9).

Prior to the game, Worcester State recognized its five senior captains: #5 Beth Spinazzola, #21 Ashleigh Howland, and #24 Justine Butler.

1^ST HALF

Worcester State's senior Ashleigh Howland (Wilmington, Mass.) tallied the first goal of the game on a cross from teammate Christina Spinos (Wilmington, Mass.) six minutes into the game. Just three and a half minutes later, Worcester State's leading scorer, Kaitlin Beluzo (East Longmeadow, Mass.) tallied her ninth goal of the season on a breakaway followed by a 1v1 with Mass. Maritime's goalie, Sara Coffey (Norton, Mass.). Four minutes later, Jenna Martin (Salem, N.H.) tallied a goal on a pass ahead from Fong, who broke the single-season school record with the assist. Worcester State's Tsara LeBlanc (Gardner, Mass.), Talia Borci (Leicester, Mass.), and Skylar Alves (Ashburnham, Mass.) also each registered goals in the first half to put the score at 6-0 heading into the intermission.

2^ND HALF

Worcester State's lone goal of the second half came in the 82^nd minute when rookie Jill Anderson (Spencer, Mass.) received the ball from Emily Remicio (West Hartford, Conn.) who crossed the ball from the right. The ball found the foot of Anderson on the left side for the 7-0 score.

COUNT ME IN

• Fong broke the Worcester State school record for assists in a single season with nine. She bested Melissa Crowley (1992), Trisha Cushing (1999), and Shelby Archer (2013) who each had eight in a single season.
• Worcester State's Jill Zinkus (Grafton, Mass.) earned her ninth shutout of the season.
• Mass. Maritime's Coffey suffered the loss in a 17-save performance.
• The Lancers held a 37-2 advantage in shots and an 8-0 margin in corner kicks.
• Worcester State earns its sixth MASCAC regular season title; fourth in the past seven years.

UP NEXT

The Lancers earn a share of the MASCAC Championship and earn the No. 1 seed due to the strength of schedule tiebreaker. Worcester State has a bye in the first round, and will host the winner of the Salem/MCLA on Friday (Nov. 3) at 7 p.m.
