WOMEN’S SOCCER FALLS TO CLARK, 1-0

WORCESTER, MA – The Worcester State women's soccer team fell, 1-0, to Clark University (Cougars) in second game of the 2021-2022 season.

Both the Lancers and the Cougars had strong defensive efforts in a tightly fought battle on Saturday afternoon at Granger Field. Though both teams exchanged opportunities, the game remained scoreless through 85 minutes of play. Clark's Siobhan Lounsbury was able to break through the tie in the 86th minute of play with a high corner shot, which would prove to be the eventual game winner for Clark.

Worcester's midfielder's Megan Gurlitz (Auburn, MA) and Hailey Skowronski (Douglas, MA) led the offense for the Lancers with three shots apiece. Forward, Haley Mignon (Tewksbury, MA) and defender, Leah Fitzgerald (Upton, MA) each added 2 shots. 

Worcester's senior goalkeeper, Ashley Spellman (Lancaster, MA) had 5 saves on the night, while Clark's senior goalkeeper Morgan Small had 4 saves on the shutout. Worcester had 11 shot attempts, while Clark had 20. Clark also led Worcester in corners (11-2).

The Lancers fell to 0-2-0 on the loss, while the Cougars improved to 1-0-0.

Worcester returns to Play on Tuesday, September 7th as they travel to WPI for a 7pm start.
