Women's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision to WestConn

DANBURY, Conn. – Worcester State University dropped a 2-0 decision to the unbeaten Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team on Tuesday night at the Westside Athletic Complex.

With the win, WestConn improved to 11-0 overall while the Lancers dropped to 5-6-1.

WestConn controlled the majority of first half play. Senior Lillian Daniels (Bethel, Conn.) gave the hosts the lead with her third goal of the season when she knocked a header that barely trickled over the goal line after a corner kick feed from junior Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.).

WestConn nearly notched an identical goal later in the half. However, Worcester State senior netminder Ashley Spellman (Lancaster, Mass.) smothered the ball before it slipped over the line.

The visitors picked up the pace in the second half and Ella Tatarczuk (Bedford, Mass.) nearly netted the equalizer. However, their shot sailed just over the crossbar in the 66th minute of play.

WestConn widened the gap to 2-0 when Croze blasted home her team-leading 17th goal of the season on a penalty kick midway through the stanza.

Spellman was stellar in net finishing with nine saves, while WestConn senior goalie Karly Martin (Bristol, CT) recorded two.

Worcester State heads back to the field on Saturday afternoon to host Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent, Bridgewater State. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
