Medford, MA --- Sophomore Mara Kralian
(Grafton, MA) kicked off the 2010 women’s indoor track season
with three first place finishes to help lead Worcester State to a
third place finish out of seven teams at the Tufts Invitational on
Saturday afternoon.
Kralian took first in the 55 meter dash (7.31) to reset her own
school record, the 200 (26.32) and the long jump (5.31m).
Kralian’s time in the 55 was only .01 seconds away from
provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Junior Christina Bisbee (N. Attleboro, MA) was
the other first place finisher for WSC as she had a toss of 12.92m
in the weight throw.
In relay action the 4x200 squad of sophomores Nicole
Lemelin (Beverly, MA), Sarah Rafferty
(Uxbridge, MA) along with first-year teamates Alicia
Ryan (Townsend, MA) and Leah Walzak
(Whitinsville, MA) notched first with a time of 1:53.10.
Freshman Cathy Chude (Marlboro, MA) placed second
in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.07 after she blew away the
field clocking an 8.82 in the preliminaries. Junior captain
Andrea Ouellette (Salisbury, MA) tallied third in
both the 55 meter hurdles (9.34) and the triple jump (10.33m) while
rookie Natalie Marchi (Northbridge, MA) chipped in
with third in the 400 (1:05.86).
First-year Brianna Wise (Worcester, MA/Doherty)
notched second in the 55 and fifth in the 200 (26.98) while
classmate Steph Muse (Chelmsford, MA) took home
fifth in the 400 (1:09.35) and seventh in the 55 meter hurdles
(9.49).
Freshman Mercedes Arnold (Mira Loma, CA) recorded
third in the long jump (4.96m) and fourth in the triple jump
(10.29m) while classmate Victoria Reizner
(Southboro, MA) added sixth in the weight throw (10.56m) and
seventh in the shot put (9.71m).
Freshman Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) paced the
distance runners placing fifth in the 3,000 (11:33.20) and 12th in
the 800 (2:35) as classmate Brittany Grueter
(Foxboro, MA) added a finish of 6th in the 3,000 (11:41.05) and
12th in the 800 (2:42).
The host Jumbos won the meet with 199 points followed by UMass
Lowell (177), WSC (133) and Keene State (105).
The Lancers continue their season when they take on tougher
competition next week at the Wheaton Invitational.
