Deininger Selected To Compete At NCAA Division III Indoor Championships

Lincoln, NE --- Junior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) has been picked to compete in the 60 meter hurdles as the 14th seed at the Division III Indoor National Track & Field Championships as announced by the NCAA selection committee.

Deininger, who tied for the 15th fastest split in Division III with her performance this past Saturday, has earned the right to compete at her first career indoor track and field national championship. Her second-place time of 8.92 at the ECAC Division III Championships helped break her own school record and solidify her spot among the best in the nation.

The trip marks the third time in her career that Deininger has competed at the NCAAs as she was the lead-off leg in the 4x100 meter relay and she has participated in the 100 meter hurdles in each of the last two seasons.

In 2012, she set a school record with a finish of 18th in the 100 meter hurdles (14.57) before reestablishing a new institutional standard in the event with 14th (14.46) during the 2013 campaign.

The 60 meter hurdles field includes six returnees from last season including seniors Tashina McAllister (Hazelton, IA) and Camesha Goods (Danville, VA) of Wartburg who are defending All-Americans.

New England competitors include junior Ashante Little (Seabrook, NH) of Wheaton as the second seed and fourth-year Jacqueline Brew (Amherst, NH) of MIT who is seeded 11th.

While Little has beaten Deininger in every race this track postseason in the finals, she has also arguably helped push Deininger throughout the course of the last month. Brew beat out Deininger for second overall at the Division III New England Championships by 0.03 of a second three weeks ago as Deinigner finished second to Little at the ECAC Division III Championships and Brew placed eighth (9.38) this past weekend.

The starting gun for the women's 60 meter hurdles trials will sound at 3:25 PM Eastern Standard Time on Friday, March 14. Deininger will run in the seventh lane of the second heat which will also include rematches against Little (in lane five) and Brew (in lane six).

Other competitors from the MASCAC include junior Targie Gervais (Springfield, MA/Central) in the 60 meters as the 13th seed and 16th seeded sophomore Naloti Palma-Kaluna (Westboro, MA) in the shot put for Westfield State.
