Jasper To Compete At NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships

Indianapolis, IN --- Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) has been chosen to participate in this week's NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships as announced by the selection committee on Monday morning.

She earned a berth to the field for finishing the indoor campaign with a top 17 sum in the pentathlon nationally for annual indoor national meet which will be held from Friday, March 13 through Saturday, March 14.

As the 14th seed (3,369 points), Jasper has earned a chance to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships for the first time in her career and fourth overall. In each of the last three years, Jasper has qualified during the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the open javelin and this past campaign, she captured eighth place in the heptathlon for All-American accolades.

On Friday, March 6 at the NYC Armory, Jasper tallied 3,391 points en-route to the ECAC Division III pentathlon title. With the best shot put toss (39-0.50/11.90 meters) and 60 meter hurdles time (9.19) along with the second-lowest 800 meter run (2:27.80), she eclipsed a 19-year school record and was only 10 points away from equaling the meet standard.

The pentathlon field is highlighted by five who were among the top 10 point totals at the NCAA Indoor meet a season ago including returning All-Americans junior Aedin Brennan (Fairport, NY) of Denison, who is seeded third (3,573 points), senior Allie Boudreau (Deerfield, IL) of Illinois Wesleyan who is slotted fourth (3,549 points) and senior Meagan Ward (Eau Claire, WI) of Wisconsin-Stout, who is ranked 12th (3,421 points).

Among regional representatives, Open New England pentathlon champion junior Addison Carvajal (Seattle, WA) of Bowdoin is the sixth seed (3,501 points) as two-time Division III New England pentathlon winner and senior Peyton Dostie (Standish, ME) of Southern Maine is ninth (3,443 points).

Jasper becomes the fourth female Lancer to compete on the national stage at the NCAA Indoor Championships and will try to become the first Worcester State women's indoor track All-American.

Junior Naloti Palma-Kaluma (Westboro, MA) of Westfield State is the other lone representative from the MASCAC. She enters the week with the seventh-best shot put in Division III.

Note that Jasper's seed total is different from her ECAC sum due to the conversion of the 800 meter time from a banked at the NYC Armory to an NCAA flat inoor competition track
