Women’s Indoor Track & Field Opens up at UMass Boston Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – The women's indoor track & field team opened up their 2015-16 season on Saturday (Dec. 5) at the UMass Boston Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center.

 

Senior Hanna Carson (Natick, Mass.) tagged second place in the women's shot put (12.17m), while senior Molly Downing (Dedham, Mass.) came in third in the weight throw with a distance of 13.03m.

 

Senior Francesca Casasanta (Milford, Mass.) tied for third place in the women's high jump, recording 1.55m. Senior Dalena Le (Worcester, Mass.) notched 11th place in the triple jump at 10.23m.

 

Junior Danielle Cote (Dighton, Mass.) marked sixth place in the 800m run at 2:32.34, while sophomores Kayla Corcoran (Lunenburg, Mass.) and Rachel Lauzon (Carver, Mass.) came in at 12th and 13th. Freshman Julia McCarthy (Rehoboth, Mass.) placed 12th in the 600m run with a time of 1:56.93.Junior Aliya-Marie Melville (Worcester, Mass.) marked 17th place in the 400m dash (1:02.27).

 

Freshman Tsara LeBlanc (Gardner, Mass.), placed 20th in the 60m dash (8.31), while sophomore Emily Visconti (N. Reading, Mass.) came in 31st out of the 86 females competing in the event. LeBlanc and Visconti also took part in the 200m dash, coming in 20th and 18th places, respectively.

 

Freshman Kelsey Bedard (Leominster, Mass.) finished 14th in the mile run at 5:52.05, while Katerina Lucier (Portsmith, R.I.) finished the 3000m run with a time of 11:54.13 for ninth place, and sophomore Justine Murdocca (Milford, Mass.) placed 10th on the 5000m run.

 

The women's indoor track & field team will look forward to a long winter break before returning to competition on Jan. 9.
