SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's indoor track & field team placed fifth in the Springfield College Maroon & White Classic on Saturday, as the team qualified for Division III New England's in the 4x800 Meter Relay and senior Molly Downing (Dedham, Mass.) qualified for both Division III New England's and ECACs in the weight throw.
Downing placed fourth out of 18 participants in the weight throw event. She recorded a 14.62m (47-11.75) distance, while Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, Mass.) came in two spots behind her with a distance of 12.90m (42-04.00). Downing also participated in the shot put, placing seventh. Senior Hanna Carson (Natick, Mass.) came atop the women's shot put event at second, with a distance of 11.95m (39-02.50).
Senior Francesca Casasanta (Milford, Mass.) tied for fifth in the high jump with a distance of 1.56m (4-11.75). She also led the team in the women's triple jump at third place with a distance of 10.13m (33-03.00). Dalena Le (Worcester, Mass.) followed her lead and marked a fourth place finish at 10.07m (33-00.50).
Le was the only Lancer to compete in the 400 Meter Dash, and placed ninth out of 19 spots with a time of 1:05.84.
Worcester State's Kayla Corcoran (Lunenberg, Mass.), Rachel Lauzon (Carver, Mass.), Sara McIsaac (Weymouth, Mass.), Danielle Cote (Dighton, Mass.), and Shayla Schoeneberger (Vernon, Conn.) led the team to a fourth place finish in the 4x800 Meter Relay as they overall registered a time of 11:25.23 to qualify for Division III New England's.
Cote completed the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:32.34 for a fifth place finish, while Corcoran came in at ninth. Kelsey Bedard (Leominster, Mass.) led the way for Worcester in a 5:52.05 mile run, where freshman Laura DelleChiaie (Haverhill, Mass.) came in behind her at 13th.
Justine Murdocca (Milford, Mass.) came in third the 3000 Meter Run for Worcester and Schoeneberger came in at sixth.
Freshman Tsara LeBlanc (Gardner, Mass.) had a sixth place finish in the 60 Meter Dash with a finals time of 8.26. She also came in sixth out of 33 participants in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 27.92. Worcester's Nichole Tillery (Auburn, Mass.) and Abigail Danso (Worcester, Mass.) came in at 13th and 16th, respectively, in the event.
Next weekend the Lancers will take part in the Tufts Stampede on Jan. 29-30.
