Women’s Indoor Track & Field Competes at Tufts Stampede

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's indoor track & field team placed sixth at the Tufts Stampede as the team's 4x800 Meter Relay time qualified them for Division III New England's. Also, junior Elizabeth McCormack's (Gloucester, Mass.) performance in the weight throw landed her a spot on the Division III New England's qualifications list.

 

McCormack placed third in the weight throw with a finals distance of 13.73m (45-00.50). Just behind her was Molly Downing (Dedham, Mass.) with 13.71m (44-11.75) at fourth place.

 

Hanna Carson (Natick, Mass.) led the Blue and Gold in the shot put event, with a finals distance of 11.71m (35-05.00). Downing came in 11th place at 10.12m (33-02.50).

 

The squad of Danielle Cote (Dighton, Mass.), Kayla Corcoran (Lunenburg, Mass.), Rachel Lauzon (Carver, Mass.), and Sara McIsaac (Weymouth, Mass.) helped lead the Lancers to a qualifying time of 10:58.54 in the 4x800 Meter Relay. The team placed fifth in the event, as another Worcester State group came in behind at sixth.

 

Cote paced Worcester State in the 600 Meter Run with a 1:51.35 finals time. Corcoran came in just behind her at ninth place with a finals time of 1:52.09. For the 1000 Meter Run, Kelsey Bedard (Leominster, Mass.) was up front with a time of 3:26.70.

 

Abigail Danso (Worcester, Mass.) was noted as a top eight collegian in the 60 Meter Hurdles event, as she placed fifth in the preliminaries, and then seventh in the finals with a time of 10.51. She also competed in the 200 Meter Dash, and came in with a 13th place finish, while Nichole Tillery (Auburn, Mass.) came in a few spots behind her.

 

Senior Dalena Le (Worcester, Mass.) marked a 10th place finish in the 400 Meter Dash, as Eva Bunszell (Bridgewater, Mass.) came in 13th.

 

At the top for Worcester State in the high jump, was senior Francesca Casasanta (Milford, Mass.) with a finals distance of 1.52m (4-11.75) for a third place finish.

 

Next weekend Worcester State will travel to Connecticut for the Wesleyan Invitation II to be hosted on Saturday, February 6.
