Women’s Indoor Track & Field Competes at Tufts Stampede

BOSTON – The Worcester State University women's indoor track & field team competed at the Tufts Stampede on Saturday at the Gatcher Field House.

 

Top Lancer finishers at the meet were junior Abigail Danso (Worcester, Mass.) and Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, Mass.) in their respective events.

 

"Abby and Liz keep inching closer and closer to the qualifying standards in their events at just the right time," commented head coach Andrea Ouellette. "They are putting the time and effort in at practice to get them prepared for the bigger meets."

 

Danso marked a 6th place finish in the 60 Meter Hurdles in a time of 9.77. Danso, who is already qualified for Division III New England's, is currently ranked 11th in all of DIII New England.

 

McCormack led all in the throws as she came in 4th place in the weight throw with a top throw of 13.89m. McCormack already qualified for Division III New England's at last week's invite, and currently sits at 15th in all of DIII New England.

 

Worcester State's top jumper was Haley Moss (Melrose, Mass.) who placed 10th in the high jump at 1.47m.

 

Doreen Buabeng (Worcester, Mass.) led the Lancers in the sprints as she came in 22nd out of 63 participants in the 60 meters in a time of 8.45, and 20th in the 200 meter in a time of 28.22. Rachel Stier (Mansfield, Mass.) placed 14th in the 400 meters 1:02.21.

 

Worcester State's Courtney Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) was the top Lancer to finish in the 600 Meters (1:52.40), while Rachel Lauzon (Carver, Mass.) was for the 800 meters (2:41.84) and Justine Murdocca  (Milford, Mass.) was for the 1000 Meters (3:38.07). Elisabeth Olson (Wilmington, Mass.) came in 18th out of 36 participants in the mile run (5:41.47).

 

The Lancers came in 8th place in the 4x200 relay (Elizabeth Charity, Abigail MacGregor, Abigail Danso, Rachel Stier), and 3rd place in the 4x800 relay (Kayla Corcoran, Megan Bachand, Elisabeth Olson, Courtney Guay).

 

Next week the Lancers travel to Middletown, Conn. for the Wesleyan Invitational III, before they get into MASCAC's the following week.
