WESTFIELD, Mass. - Worcester State University women's indoor track & field athlete Avonia Herbert (Sharon, Mass.) has been named the Rookie of the Week by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Herbert had a strong meet over the weekend at the Mary Grinaker Invitational, hosted by Smith College. The freshman ran the anchor leg of Worcester State's 4x200 meter relay team that took first place (1:47.69), while also placing fifth in the 200 meter dash (27.27 seconds), and sixth in the triple jump (10.65 meters).
It is the second consecutive week Herbert has received the honor. Last week, she was named both MASCAC Rookie and Field Athlete of the Week.
Herbert and the Lancers will be back on the track on Saturday for the John Thomas Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University.
