Herbert Nabs Win at Season-Opening Donahue Games

BOSTON, Mass. – Avonia Herbert (Sharon, Mass.) won the triple jump as the Worcester State women's track and field team began their season at the Joe Donahue Games at Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday night.

Herbert topped Lancer teammates Madison Breuer and Eryca Lopes in the triple jump with a 9.70m mark.

The Lancers went 2-3 in the 800 meter finals, with Erica Hanlon (Shrewsbury, Mass.) coming in second (2:39.72) and Mackenzie Marshall right behind her in third (2:50.12).

Elena Pellegrini (Ashland, Mass.) and Bridget Maunsell were in the top-five finishers in the 200 meter finals. Pellegrini took third place (27.53) and Maunsell was 4th (27.99).

Kasey Clark (Dudley, Mass.) was the runner-up in the mile, finishing the event in 5:35.00. Junior Caitlin Conneely (Tewksbury, Mass.) took fifth in that event (5:58.60).

Pellegrini and Maureen Grady (Douglas, Mass.) were also top-four in the 60 meters finals.

The Lancers will not compete again until after New Year's, with their next meet set for January 28th at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic.
