First Years Shine at Mary Grinaker Invitational

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Indoor Track and Field Team was in competitive form this Saturday as they walked away with a number of top finishes at the Mary Grinaker Invitational. First year Jadah Stokes (Savannah, GA) came home with two first place finishes on the day.

 

Stokes finished first in both events she was entered in, grabbing an 11.71m shot put throw as well as 13.01m weight throw to open her collegiate competitive career. Joining Stokes in both events was senior  Sthanisha Moreau (Taunton, MA) who snagged second in the shot put with a measurement of 10.58m and a ninth place in the weight throw with a distance of 9.22m. First year Giana Noyes would finish in 8th ahead of Moreau in the weight throw with a mark of 9.57m. Noyes would grab the 17th position in the shot put with a 6.91m hit. Sophomore Ava Piccolo (Tewksbury, MA) would finish in a top five spot, with a fourth place finish in the shot put after marking a 9.54m toss. She would grab the 11th spot in the weight with an 8.38m measurement. First year Luana Grau-Moura (Marlborough, MA) snagged the 7th position in the shot after marking a 8.63m and 12th in the weight throw after a toss nearly as far the shot, reaching 8.17m.

 

The field events kept the competition high, and showed the first year dominance, when Alexis Strong (Southington, CT) recorded a 1.42m mark on the high jump for 3rd place. Fellow first year Lauren Condike (East Longmeadow, MA) recorded an equal height but needed extra attempts finding her just behind in 4th. Condike would additionally claim a 6th place mark when she finished in a time of 10.96 seconds in the 60m hurdles. Highlighting the excitement of the new additions to the indoor track and field team this season was Carlie Cronin who recorded a clearance of 2.45m in the Pole Vault for a 4th place finish to partner along with fellow first year Ciara Adu-Addo (Worcester, MA) who was fresh off using her leaps in soccer to record a 4.70m long jump for a 4th place ending. Senior Eryca Lopes was about .5m behind with a distance of 4.26m for 7th. Adu-Addo would also claim an 8th place finish in the 60m, crossing in a time of 8.47 seconds while Lopes claimed a 6th place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 9.57m.

 

Sophomore Leah Berg (Worcester, MA) would snag another 4th place finish for the Lancers crossing in a 5:54.91 in the mile, coming fresh off her mile pace in her cross country season. Fellow cross country teammate and sophomore Claudia Symonick (Auburn, MA) finished in 6th with a time of 6:37.82. Junior Carly Gilson (Grafton, MA) who was a fellow cross country top finisher along with Berg and Symonick showed her kick speed claiming 8th in the 200m in a time of 28.65. First year Lexie Zakrzewski (Taunton, MA) would finish just under a second behind Gilson with a 29.21 for 9th. Sophomores Bridget O'Malley and Erin Condon would round out the Lancers finishers with a 29.75 second finish for 13th and 30.52 for 17th.

 

Worcester will return to action next Saturday, December 9th, when they journey to Wesleyan for the Wesleyan Winter Invite.
